Within the spine there are six centers of energy called the chakras. They are placed within the “spinal canal” from the coccyx up to the pituitary gland. Each chakra has an anterior and a posterior pole so that we have twelve localized points, six on the back and six on the front side of the canal, in an ascending and a descending order. These twelve localizations are directly correlated with the twelve signs of the zodiac. Therefore, one can say that the complete zodiac is found in the spinal cord of every individual.
In the same way, there exists a relationship between the seven principal planets of the solar system, the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, and the six chakras. Note that in Jyotis (Vedic or Cosmic Astrology), the Sun and Moon are considered planets – we are interested in their astral effects, not in their scientific designations. In concrete terms, according to the hour and place of birth, the planets hold a particular position in the sky. They exert their influence upon each of us in a specific manner by affecting our chakras.
Each planet correlates to a specific chakra. For each human being, a concrete and practical relationship, defined by the place and time of birth, is established. This particular relationship is then visibly mapped when a horoscope is drawn up.
The relationships between the six chakras, their two poles (front and back) and the signs of the zodiac with their ruling planets are as follows:

Besides these seven basic planets, Cosmic Astrology takes into account the two lunar/solar nodes: Rahu and Ketu. Rahu is located above the fontanel at the crown of the head and Ketu below the coccyx. Rahu is the ascending node and Ketu the descending node. Both nodes are points in space/time determined through calculations and may be compared to two ends of an axis around which the planets move, giving them a direction. Astronomically, they are related to the lunar ecliptic plane.
The astral body parallels the brain/spinal cord from the coccyx, at the base of the spine, to the pituitary gland at the top of the spine and in the middle of the brain.
